7 Reasons to Vacation in La Paz
Whale Shark
1. Aquarium of the World
La Paz offers the richest marine life in the world. French oceanographer Jacques Cousteau led many expeditions in this area.
Guests can swim with gentle whale sharks that grow as big as school buses. Whale sharks are born in the warm waters of La Paz. Despite their size, they don't pose a danger to humans snorkeling or diving.
The best months to swim with whale sharks are in October to February.
2. Isla Espirito Santo
In English this is translated to Holy Spirit Island. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to one of the largest populations of sea lions. More than 400 sea lions call this area home. Visitors can snorkel and scuba dive in the clear water as the curious sea mammals play in the water nearby.
It's also one of the best kayaking sites. As you paddle on guided tours, turtles, whales, dolphins, and manta rays are below.
Seabirds such as boobies, turkey vultures and pelican live and fly over this area.
3. The Malecon in La Paz
This six mile long beach front path offers open-air markets, museums, art galleries, restaurants and terrific people watching. It's a popular locals and tourist jogging path in the early morning. During lunch and sunset hours, people stroll along the Malecon and stop for a cerveza and tapas.
There is also exercise equipment along the Malecon to get a full body workout.
